Kenny Rogers started out doing some psychedelic music back in the 1960s with The First Edition, went country and country cross-over in the 1970s, and it 1980 he went full on adult contemporary balladeer with the song "Lady."

Written and produced by Lionel Richie, the song was a number one hit for SIX weeks in late 1980. It was eventually knocked off the top spot by John Lennon's "(Just Like) Starting Over," a couple weeks after he was murdered.

In fact, the song was so huge, it came in at #10 on the Billboard Hot 100 for the entire decade of the '80s.

The crowd is loving Kenny in this clip from 1980. Enjoy.
