February 26, 2019

He found his thrill on Blueberry Hill, and was one of the first artists inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Fats Domino was born on today's date in 1928. He passed away in 2017.

Here are a few things you may not have known about "The Fat Man."

1. He reportedly sold more records in the 1950s than any artist other than Elvis Presley.

2. He got his nickname not from his roly-poly stature, but from his first commercially recorded single, "The Fat Man."

3. He loved food almost as much as he loved music. While on the road, he would often bring his own burner and cook his favorite New Orleans meals.

4. He was married to his wife Rosemary for 60 years. She died in 2008.

5. Missing during the first week after Hurricane Katrina, he and his wife were eventually rescued from their home in the 9th ward. Although the Tipitina's Foundation repaired the home, he never moved back since most of his friends never returned to the neighborhood.
