In their first year of eligibilty, Pearl Jam gets the acknowledgement of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. That's probably not a huge surprise to anyone.

According to the Rock Hall, inductees must exhibit unquestionable musical excellence and talent, and must also have had a significant impact on the development, evolution and preservation of rock & roll. Instrumental in creating Seattle's grunge scene in the 1990s, Eddie and band certainly meet the criteria.

Others being inducted include folk singer Joan Baez, Electric Light Orchestra, Yes, Tupac Shakur, and Journey, which was the top vote getter in the Rock Hall's online poll. Nile Rodgers, part of the rock band Chic, gets an Award for Musical Excellence.

I have no problems with any of these artists getting in, but I was really rooting for the J. Geils Band (their pre-Love Stinks era is fantastic). and the Zombies. The British group, which had hits including "She's Not There," is enjoying a resurgence and has been touring to rave reviews. The Zombies will be at the Barrymore Theatre April 15th. More info here.
