Is this heaven? No, it's Olin Park!

Beer lovers from around the world convene in Madison every August for the Great Taste of the Midwest, put on by the Midwest Homebrewers and Tasters Guild.

My boyfriend Mike and I attended for around the 20th year (I need to go count my old taster glasses to make sure), and it seemed like everyone was in a great mood, the beer flowed freely as did the beer conversation. When 2 beer lovers meet, you always have something to talk about!

One great story from before the fest even began--a guy from St. Louis posted online that he forgot his tickets at home and was looking to buy two more. Then another guy posted he was in St. Louis, not leaving until 3pm on Friday, and willing to help.  He managed to get a key from this guy's buddy, grab the tickets, and bring them to Madison! Beer lovers are the best!

I love the names brewers come up with for their concoctions. Here are a few of my favorites.

Best Beer Named After A Movie CharacterAugustus Gloop from Fillmore 13 of Pontiac Michigan. Of course this is a double chocolate milk stout named after the kid who fell into the river of chocolate in Willy Wonka's candy factory.

Best Beer Named After Kitty's Favorite Band From High School: Oreo Speedwagon. From Mikerphone Brewery in Elk Grove Village IL.

Best Beer To Show Jesus Loves The Working Man: Jesus on a Forklift. From Exile Brewing Company in Des Moines Michigan.

Best Beer That Hopefully Tastes Better Than It Sounds: Circus Peanut Hefeweizen, from Next Door, right here in Madison! Aged on actual circus peanut candies.

Best Beer That Sounds Like It Should Be From Kitty's Hometown: Brewnicornski from Pipeworks in Chicago. I think I went to junior high with Stash Brewnicornski!

Next year's Great Taste of the Midwest is August 8th, with tickets going on sale the first Sunday in May.
