Record Store Day: Kitty's Picks

April 21, 2018

April 18, 2018

Record Store Day is this Saturday! That's the day record companies put out cool, exclusive releases on vinyl, sending them only to independent record stores to give them an extra boost over online retailers and big box stores.

This year's list is an eclectic mix of albums, singles, and picture discs that are causing collectors and music lovers to drool (but not on those records, please!).'

I went through the list and found a few that I thought were worth highlighting. Happy hunting!

Allman Brothers Band Live at the Atlanta Pop Festival: it seems fans of the Bros can never get enough of their live shows..and this one is from their young and hungry days, with Duane Allman and Berry Oakley still alive and well. This is a 4 LP set, available for the first time on vinyl. Bring money.

Dylan & The Dead. The Grateful Dead back up Dylan on some of his classic songs. This is a Record Store Day first, on TIE DYE vinyl!

Steve Earle & The Dukes Live From the Continental Club. This is a 2 LP set, couldn't find any other details--but this is Steve Earle, people!

First Aid Kit "You Are The Problem Here."  This is a 7" single from the Swedish duo. It was recorded in honor of International Women's Day.

John Fogerty "Centerfield" Picture Disc. Put me in Coach, I'm ready to play!

Van Morrison The Alternative Moondance. This is a double picture disc LP! With 2 previously unreleased alternates of And It Stoned Me and Crazy Love.

The Smithereens Play Tommy. The 2009 release is available for the first time on vinyl (R.I.P. Pat DiNizio)

Free To Be You and Me. The 1972 kids album gets re-released. Where else are you going to hear Dick Cavett sing, or a duet between Marlo Thomas and Harry Belafonte?

Wisconsin Vinyl Collective, Volume 2. Featuring artists with Wisconsin ties, including the Violent Femmes, Phox, and Brett Newski.
