Bowling Green, Kentucky natives Dan Luke and the Raid have had a busy year. They premiered a video for their first single “Black Cat Heavy Metal” this summer (watch below); toured with Declan McKenna; released their second single, “Golden Age,” last month; and are touring as support for Okey Dokey, The Weeks, and Ron Gallo this fall.

Naturally, we wanted to get the scoop on these guys. So we sent frontman (and younger brother of Matt and Brad Shultz of Cage the Elephant) Daniel Shultz a few texts to get down to it. All that was left to do was make sure we had ample WiFi connection and a full charge.*

We asked five questions, and each text response is preceded by that question’s corresponding number.

1. What’s the story behind “Black Cat Heavy Metal”?

2. You’ve got a debut EP on the way. How do you hope the EP makes people feel/what do you hope people take away from listening to it?

3. In honor of Be Good, tell us about a time you got in trouble with your parents or a teacher growing up.

4. You just toured with Declan McKenna. Describe your favorite moment from the tour.

5. When can we expect to hear your first full-length album?

*That, and to listen to Dan Luke and the Raid’s first single, “Black Cat Heavy Metal.”

Like what you hear? Be on the lookout for the group’s debut EP, Be Good!

Kisses and well wishes.
