Who praises the NYC subway system? What in the world are “synesthesia muggles”? Just ask Lorde.

A guest on last night’s episode of Late Night with Seth Meyers, she both performed and sat down for an interview. As always, conversation with the singer-songwriter was hilarious.

First, she and Seth Meyers reminisce on the day they first met … at a Kanye West fashion show where they both felt uncool next to guests like Drake. She then continues to talk about musical inspiration and the creation of her latest release, Melodrama, describing what it was like to produce with her “work husband,” Bleachers frontman Jack Antonoff—find out which Starbucks meal they’d go halfsies on:

Next, watch Lorde:

1. Explain why she thanks the NYC subway system in the liner notes for Melodrama and

2. Define what she calls “synesthesia muggles.”

Last, but not least, comes this stripped-down version of the danceable “Perfect Places.” It starts out quietly. Then the choir kicks in. And then the drums kick in. And it’s worth a watch!

Melodrama is out now, and you can scoop a copy here.
